The Design Museum Ghent is extended by a new wing called DING (Design In Ghent). The new building will link the existing buildings of the museum and create additional exhibition space, while providing space for a shop and catering establishments. The structure of the new building is logical and coherent. There are large spans withstanding hight loads to accommodate several functions. The ribbed timber floors not only reduce material consumption but form also a visually interesting feature. By showing the structural elements as finishes, we simplify and accelerate the construction process significantly. The simplicity of the structure ensures that the visitor’s attention remains drawn to the exhibition. At the same time, this simplicity makes it possible to treat details with great care. Hence, the structure of the building functions simultaneously as finishing element.
