Context

The project is located on the Roosendaelveld site and is comprised of a nursery for 42 children that will be expanded to 112 children in a second phase. The building consists of a single storey with a folded roof to add a playful character. Due to the geometry of the roof and the rational layout, a system was chosen of columns and beams, all of which in glued laminated timber. The positions of the vertical supports were determined with great care in order both to respect the architectural requirements and to optimise the sections of the structural elements. The facade walls and partitions are designed as timber frame walls except for some interior walls in sand-lime brick for acoustic comfort. The exposed timber columns are circular and made of Douglas fir in the exterior environment to withstand the weather conditions.
