Van Laere’s new HQ are located at a new business park in Zwijndrecht. The offices are a ‘calling card’ for the contracting company. The compact footprint of 50 by 22 m, accounting for a total area of 2535m², is made up of three floors and provides enough space for 85 workstations.
The supporting structure consists entirely of a grid of wooden glulam cross columns and glulam beams on which hollow-core concrete slabs rest. They are fully prefabricated and demountable. Efforts were also made to reduce the environmental impact of the façade. This was done through the choice of materials – glass, concrete and metal -, the façade composition, the demount ability and reusability of the materials. For this reason, the curtain wall and the second skin in expanded metal were developed according to a standard modulation.
