Context

Located in the Parisian district of Gennevilliers, a complex of four residential buildings is currently under study, occupying a total floor area of 8,500 square meters and offering 120 residential units.

This project stands out for its predominant use of wood in the structure from the first floor. The circulation cores are constructed in reinforced concrete, ensuring the building’s lateral stability.

Optimizing the use of wood with an emphasis on sustainability and strength is a key aspect of the design. The main beams, with a section of 30×44 cm, are manufactured in “Glulam block” to guarantee the required strength while minimizing the depth of the beams within the living spaces. The largest spans are supported by beams made from BauBuche, a laminated beech timber recognized for its excellent mechanical properties.

The 14 cm-thick floors are constructed using Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT). Thanks to the lightweight nature of this material, it reduces the load on the foundations and significantly lowers the carbon footprint of the floors. The building facades are also made from CLT, with thicknesses ranging from 10 to 12 cm, allowing for rapid construction due to their prefabrication.

Furthermore, the three largest buildings are equipped with an underground parking structure constructed in reinforced concrete, providing a convenient parking solution for the residents of the buildings.
