Construction of an extension for an existing nursery in Nivelles. The new wing is a wooden construction made from panels pre-assembled in a workshop for the facades. The building has low energy consumption. The reinforced concrete basement is based on piles. The roof is composed of LVL-type wood panels that cover a frame of laminated-glued wood beams.
Based on the elevation of the existing lot, a basement was created to limit embankments. The overhang of the roof gives an impression of lightness to the wooden structure of the nursery. The geometry of the roof is special. By having reverse slopes on both halves of the roof, a vertical opening is created that brings natural light to the classrooms. A wooden mesh beam with steel pulls carries the roof panels over the entire width of the building at the opening.
