Reinforced notched CLT

Belgium

test notched CLT

Context

The aim of the research, carried out in collaboration with the polytechnic faculty of the UMons, was to determine the load-bearing capacity of a CLT notched over more than half its height. This notching was necessary to meet the different constraints of a renovation project.

Particularities

The University of Lund has carried out a research campaign of 160mm notched CLT panels in support. The research showed that when the notch is greater than 0.5H, the formula proposed by EC5 is no longer applicable. Research on the subject is currently ongoing and no calculation model exists yet for the case where hef<0.5h. For this, CLT notched over 0.5H needs to be tested in the laboratory. Tests with and without screw reinforcement were carried out.
