Context

SAC is a project to transform the offices of the Schaerbeek Social and Administrative Center. The renovation will provide 3,805m² of housing and 750m² of facilities, services and shops. The roof will feature a garden, a communal vegetable patch and solar panels, with a view to achieving energy and social sustainability.

Particularities

A great deal of emphasis is being placed on the circular economy and the reuse of materials. The existing load-bearing structure, a concrete skeleton comprising floors, columns and beams, is being reused, as are the facing bricks, raised floors and screeds. The balconies will be made of GLT and CLT timber. This new non-load-bearing facade and the dry structure of the new floors prevent the use of prefabricated walls and false ceilings as far as possible, as well as the integration of load-bearing or masonry interior walls, making the building modular.
